As Our Hot Weather Continues – Tips to Stay Safe

-from PIO Adam Mayberry, of Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District

The National Weather Service is predicting continued hot weather for many days to come throughout Washoe County and northwestern Nevada. Many communities in northern Nevada have seen triple digit temperatures.

NEVER leave children or pets alone in a hot car.

Limit outdoor activities.

Avoid exertion and take breaks when possible.

Wear cool, loose-fitting clothing and sunscreen.

Drink more water to avoid dehydration.

Check on your neighbors who may be at-risk such as the elderly or disabled.

When the temperature is very high, don’t let your dog linger on hot asphalt. Being so close to the ground, your pet’s body can heat up quickly, and sensitive paw pads can burn. Keep walks during these times to a minimum.

And most importantly, have a fun filled and safe summer!
