Lands Bill Threatens Massive Sprawl in Washoe County

URGENT: Your Input Needed on Massive Sprawl Land Bill

Please join PLAN in attending two upcoming public meetings that will shape our community for decades to come.  The “Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act” could:

  • Result sprawling suburban development
  • Financially stress local governments and taxpayers who will pay for infrastructure and services
  • Drain Washoe County’s water to support urban sprawl
  • Require expensive new wastewater management systems
  • Sell off public lands

This sweeping land bill is the re-branded “Washoe Lands Bill,” which local communities have clearly and consistently opposed for over a decade. While this bill has a conversation component, the primary effect will be uncontrolled development. The bill will allow even more of our open and wild lands – 90,000+ acres – to be sold to developers, within a sprawling growth ring that goes all the way to Pyramid Lake.

There has been no opportunity for public input on the current proposal. This is our chance to demand a more fair and transparent public process that allows the community — not developers and their lobbyists — to decide.

Nevada is counting on you to protect our land, air, water, and people. Will you join us this week?
