Falsework Removal at Huffaker Bridge

The Huffaker Bridge is nearing completion as crews begin to remove falsework of the northbound structure. Falsework is a temporary structure used to support the bridge until construction is completed and the bridge can support itself. Falsework removal will last approximately two weeks. Before the Huffaker Bridge reaches completion, approach slabs will be poured with concrete and barrier rail placed.

Did you know that the Huffaker Bridge is also unique? The bridge lies within a pinch-point between Rattlesnake Mountain and the Virginia Foothills, and during flood events water naturally pulls to this location. The bridge is designed extra-long so that in the event of a flood, excess water will be able to spread out and reach the creek’s natural floodplain. The Huffaker Bridge is the largest of five bridges built on Phase 2 of the project.
