Subject: NWS Reno — Strong Winds, Variable Snow Prospects for Tues-Wed Storm + Fire Concerns!
Good Monday morning everyone! This week is looking a bit more interesting than the last couple – with strong wind and some snow late Tuesday into Wednesday. Of course it’s timed with holiday travel for some so that could up the impact levels even though this storm is fairly routine for this time of year.
Please see the attached Freakout PDF for a summary. (click here to download)
Please note that we’re also highlighting fire weather concerns for our friends in the lower elevations of the Eastern Sierra given the relative lack of precipitation so far this winter. This is a classic setup for “off season” rapid fire spread – strong winds, lack of recent precipitation. Please help us get the word out to the public to be extra careful.
Beyond this storm, I’m not seeing any meaningful indications of the Pacific “atmospheric river” storm door opening back up in a major way. With high pressure parked off the coast, we’re probably locked into a pattern of cool/quiet or just weak storms through the end of the year.
Have a great week ahead, stay safe, stay warm!
